Q&A with Charli
First Bike: A bright yellow Cannondale.
Hardest thing about cycling: Having to grovel home on half an energy bar after ‘hitting the wall’ because you misjudged the length of the ride!.
Favourite cycling memory: Riding up Gunn Hill with my Dad to watch the Tour of Britain come past and being totally starstruck.
Who inspired you to start cycling: Predominantly my Dad.
Favourite food: Peanut Butter.
Interest outside of cycling: I did athletics before I started riding, and gymnastics before that, so I’ve always been into sport.
First Cycling Club: Congleton CC.
Favourite film: Cool Runnings.
Favourite Race: The Arctic Heroes of Tomorrow race I did last year in Norway was great. Norway is beautiful.
Cycling Hero: Katie Archibald; I’ve had pink, purple, blue and green hair at various points, so I feel we are in some way connected.
Favourite Climb: Col de Rates near where I’m staying at the moment on the Spanish coast is a great one.
Favourite warm up music: Anastasia by Slash normally does the trick.
Pets: A dog called Finn.
When you were little what did you want to be when you grew up: No idea, still don’t!
Cycling Superstitions/good luck charms: Too many to name! I have a specific cobble I have to ride over on my drive every time I get home. If I miss it I go back and ride up again…
Pre Race Rituals: I never turn an inside-out base layer the right way round, never cross people on the stairs, always walk up the left hand side of the stairs…
Best Friend in the Peloton: Probably Rosa Martin, we’re both as crazy as each other.
What do you love most about cycling: Long sunny rides with my family on a Sunday morning.
